Omar Palmer North Babylon 6'/200 lbs. Running Back Suffolk's Hansen Award How does a player replace a legend? Palmer made it look easy - he ran for more yards in one season, scored 29 touchdowns, won the 40th Carl A. Hansen Award, given to Suffolk's best player, and led an unlikely band of virtually inexperienced players to the Long Island Class II Championship. That's how. Palmer persevered as the feature back in an offensive set in which Barry Baker, North Babylon's Touchdown Maker, scored 70 touchdowns in the previous three seasons. Palmer grabbed the spotlight and lifted the Bulldogs with an awe-inspiring 2,108 yard effort that included a Long Island Championships - record 303 yards rushing and five touchdowns. "He was absolutely incredible" North Babylon coach Terry Manning said "He ran hard, he ran smart and he ran over people. He could take it into the hole or burst it outside and have the acceleration to just blow people away." He totaled 3,446 yards rushing and 40 touchdowns in two years. He also had 83 tackles and three fumble recoveries.
