CHSFL predictions, Week 4

Each week in the fall, NYPost.com's Dylan Butler and Joseph Staszewski will attempt to prognosticate the coming Catholic High School Football League weekend.

RECORDS AFTER WEEK 3

Butler: 19-6 (5-4 in Week 3)

Staszewski: 16-9 (3-6 in Week 3)

Iona Prep @ Xaverian (Friday, 7:30 p.m.)

Butler: Iona Prep bounced back well from a devastating overtime loss to Holy Cross by handily defeating Chaminade, 27-7, in New Rochelle last week. Xaverian, meanwhile, is coming off a disappointing 26-0 loss at Monsignor Farrell, a game in which the Clippers struggled in all three facets. I expect a better showing from the Clippers, especially at home, but Iona Prep has too many offensive weapons. Pick: Iona Prep

No doubt Lyle McCombs has heard plenty from St. Joseph by the Sea coach Greg Manos about avoiding a letdown this weekend against Kellenberg

Staszewski: The Clippers ran into a team more physical than they are last week. Quarterback Greg Rando was under a heavy rush all game and Xaverian had no answer for the Farrell running attack. The task doesnt get easier this week as they welcome defending CHSFL AAA champions Iona Prep to Brooklyn, fresh of dismantling Chaminade. The X-Men are a budding program, but they are not quite on Ionas level yet. Pick: Iona Prep

Xavier @ Cardinal Hayes (Friday, 7:30 p.m.)

Butler: A year ago in this meeting at Maritime College, Xavier crushed Cardinal Hayes, 86-42. Somehow I think coach C.J. ONeil will remind the Cardinals of that loss leading up to Fridays rematch in The Bronx. Xavier isnt the same team that ran roughshod over Hayes and the Cardinals arent the same team that took that beating. Look for Hayes to get some revenge while remain undefeated. Pick: Cardinal Hayes

Staszewski: The Knights put one in the win column in impressive fashion last week, beating St. John the Baptist, 26-0. Chris Mattina and John Wilson had big days on the ground. Xaviers running offense, when going well, could really keep the explosive Hayes playmakers like Kwamayne Davis and Jeremiah Kobena off the field. It is that explosiveness though that will be the difference. Xavier cant win if this becomes a shootout. Pick: Cardinal Hayes

Archbishop Stepinac @ Christ the King (Saturday, 1 p.m.)

Butler: I clearly learned my lesson about picking against Stepinac. After back-to-back losses, I jumped on the Crusaders bandwagon last week as Stepinac crushed Cardinal Spellman. Im not about to get off this week as quarterback Tyrell Goodman and company will ruin the winless Royals home opener. Pick: Archbishop Stepinac

Staszewski: It appears the Royals are in for a long season after a 20-8 loss to St. Peters last week. First-year coach Chris Higgins and co. have yet to record a win as its offensive line as yet to gel. The explosiveness of Terrel Hunt and Will Hunter always give them a chance, but Stepinac is 3-0. The Crusaders do not have a win against a big team, but will have enough to handle CK.Pick: Stepinac
